Two Tigers earn All-West Region honors

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Dec. 14, 2009) – Announced last week by the National Coaches Soccer Association of American, two Tigers have earned All-West Region recognition for her performance on the soccer field during the fall of 2009. After earning First Team All-SCIAC both Marci Kang and Season Falkler-Rodriguez landed on the Third Team All-West Region.
Kang finishes her collegiate career as the first player in Occidental College women’s soccer history to be selected three consecutive years to the NSCAA DIII All-West Third Team. Kang moved into midfield this season and had a another outstanding year as she supplied a pair of assists. Throughout her four-year career, she has turned in consistently high performances. In addition to her three AWR recognitions and her First Team All-SCIAC this fall, she was also selected to the First Team in 2008 and was placed on the Second Team in 2007.
A junior defender, Falkler-Rodriguez, was selected to the AWR team for her tenacious play as a rock in center-defender. She scored four vital goals, two game-winners, in Oxy’s run to the 2009 SCIAC Tournament Championship team. Last fall, Falkler-Rodriguez became a two-sport All-SCIAC recipient with a Second Team recognition on the soccer field before finishing fifth in the 400 meter dash at the SCIAC Track & Field Championships to earn All-SCIAC recognition.
The Tigers finished the season 10-7 with a 7-5 SCIAC mark. Occidental placed third in the league standings and upset the University of Redlands in the semi-final game of the 2009 Post Season Tournament to advance to the championship game.
