Kim's Goal Not Enough Against Whittier

Kim's Goal Not Enough Against Whittier

LOS ANGELESKatherine Kim scored the game's first goal in the 8th minute.

But the Occidental women's soccer team gave up two goals in a matter of seconds in the second half and weren't able to recover in a 2-1 loss to Whittier at Jack Kemp Stadium on Wednesday.

The Tigers fall to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in SCIAC play.

Whittier goes to 4-0 overall.

Coming into the match, Oxy had outscored its previous two opponents 10-0.

Kim scored her second goal of the season on a rebounded shot that was hit hard at the goalkeeper by Elleni Bekele. The ball fell close to Kim who finished off the play with the keeper still on the ground.

Whittier began to show some glipses toward the end of the first half, but didn't get the equalizer until Miranda Yzabal finished a pass from Lauren Kai in the 63rd minute.

Just seconds later, Leah Kolek found Jazmin Gomez for the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal.

The Tigers are back in action against La Verne at 11 a.m. on Oxy's grass field at the top of campus.

Whittier will take its undefeated record back home against Redlands on Saturday.
