LOS ANGELES — Elleni Bekele headed in the game-winning goal in the 80th minute as the Occidental women's soccer team picked up three points with a 1-0 win over Chapman at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.
Oxy had corner after corner in the first half and dominated a good amount of the possession for the first 45 minutes, but it wasn't until late in the second half that the Tigers finally broke through.
Isabella Bonomi took the corner and found Bekele at the back post where she headed the ball inside the left post.
It was Oxy's seventh corner of the game. The Tigers had six corners in the first half alone.
Chapman had a pair of opportunities on corners that threatened the Oxy goal by just inches in the second half. The first was in the 70th minute that Oxy goalkeeper Sydney Tomlinson just barely kept out of the net and the second was a header by Karla Alas-Lopez to preserve Oxy's 1-0 advantage in the 83rd minute.
Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 3-0-2 overall and 2-0-2 in SCIAC.
Chapman falls to 3-4 and 0-2.
