Regals Edge Tigers in the Pool

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 12, 2008) – Cal Lutheran’s women’s swim team slightly edged out Occidental in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Taylor Pool today.
Despite entering the swimming portion of the meet with a 32-point lead, thanks to the diving trio of Celeste Faber, Kyle Owens and Katie Lavoie, the Tigers came up just short, dropping the meet by a final score of 125-111 as CLU swept all 11 swimming events.
Faber was victorious on the one and three meter boards, turning in scores of 237.35 and 229.60, respectively.
Erin Brinton finished second to CLU’s Christa Ratcliff in both the 1000 and 500 freestyle events. She swam the 1000 in 11:11.69 and the 500 in 5:27, 13, three seconds off Ratcliff’s pace.
In the 100 butterfly, Occidental took places 2-6. Renae Rykaczewski (1:06.22) was six seconds behind CLU’s Jill Minehan for second place followed by Robin Hamilton, Jackie Steele, Elizabeth Shdo and Sarah Hunt. Rykaczewski also placed second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.12, 91 tenths of a second behind the winner.
Claire Coddington (26.23) and Audrey Akcasu (26.87) were second and third in the 50 freestyle.
The trio of Eileen McMillan (2:23.75), Kelsey Fuller (2:28.10) and Nancy Moore (2:37.51) touched the wall in the 2-3-4 spots in the 200 IM.
The Tigers fall to 2-2 on the season with a 1-2 SCIAC mark. Oxy will dive back into the pool on Saturday, Jan. 19 when they travel to the University of Redlands to take on the Bulldogs.
