Driscoll, Dong Break Four School Records

CLAREMONTCindy Dong and Emily Driscoll each broke a pair of school records and the Occidental women's swimming and diving team had Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on the ropes in a tri-meet with CMS and Caltech at CMS on Saturday.

But the Athenas did what they needed to in the last relay to hold off the Tigers in the meet.

Oxy beat Caltech and lost to CMS.

The Tigers had a one-point lead going into the last relay and led that relay after two legs before CMS jumped in front.

"All I can say is, 'What a meet,'" Oxy head coach Steve Webb said. "To have a lead going into the last relay against one of the best teams in the country is great. We started the meet in a 30-point hole from diving and made up that amount by the middle of the meet."

Cindy Dong set new school records in the 100 fly (57.42) and 200 fly (2:06.22), and Driscoll did the same in the 100 back (57.47) and 200 back (2:06.38).

Annika Moen set the previous 100 fly record in 2018 (58.08), Mallory Ryan had the 200 fly (2:08.12) in 2011, and Madison Thurber had the 100 back (58.42) and the 200 back (2:07.11) in 2018.

Oxy went 1-2 in the 50 free with Joan Kronick taking first (24.43) and Claire Jang taking second (24.45), and the 100 free with Kronick in first (53.85) and Dong in second (53.97).

Laura Chun finished second in the 200 breast (2:26.42) and third in the 200 I.M. (2:12.56).

Katherine Hines won the 1,00 free (10:50.64) and was second in the 500 free (5:20.95).

Next Meet: Oxy is back in action at La Verne on Jan. 12.
