LOS ANGELES — Cindy Dong was named the SCIAC Women's Swimmer of the Week after breaking a pair of school records in a tri-meet with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Caltech at CMS.
The first year from Sarasota, Fla. set new school records in the 100 fly (57.42) and 200 fly (2:06.22). Both times rank in the top 10 in NCAA Division III so far this season and lead the SCIAC.
"This is a great honor for Cindy to receive this award as a first year," Oxy head coach Steve Webb said. "She has been training really well in practice, and I am happy to see that work pay off in a meet. Both her 100 and 200 fly rank Top in the SCIAC, with the 200 fly being the fastest time in the conference by over 7 seconds. We are excited to see what she can do at SCIACS."
Dong's performance was just one part of an outstanding meet for the Tigers. Emily Driscoll, another first year, also broke two records, and Oxy had a lead over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps until the final race of the meet, marking their narrowest defeat to CMS in years.
Oxy takes a break from competitive action until Jan. 12 when it competes at La Verne.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
