Tigers Tennis Kicks off Season at CSULA Tournament

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 3, 2008) – Occidental women’s tennis players stepped on the court for the first time this season on Friday and Saturday at the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational. Although the final day of competition was cancelled due to rain, the Tigers were glad to be back in action.
The Tigers were led by Jennifer Wahba who advanced to the semi-finals of the Singles Consolation Bracket. She first defeated Phan Ho (CSULA) 8-1 before winning against Kristin Williams (BIOLA) 8-5. In the semi’s she fell to Hannah Leake (TMC) by an 8-5 margin. In the same bracket Kisa Ito advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Emily Rios (GCU) 8-3.
Taylor Kaplan defeated Marisa Flores (6-3, 6-2) to advance to the quarterfinals in Flight 3 & 4 singles competition. After day one of competition, Taylor was 2-0.
In doubles action freshman Danielle Siegler and Kaplan beat Grand Canyon’s Stephanie Haldman and Shelia Johnson 8-6, in the main draw. They moved on to the semifinals where they lost 8-2 to a team from The Master’s College.
Oxy will return to the friendly confines of the McKinnon Tennis Center on the campus of Occidental College where they will host Hope International University on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 2:00 p.m.
