Tigers Battle on the Courts

Pasadena, Calif. ( March 19, 2008) – Occidental College women’s tennis took on the Salisbury University Seagulls Wednesday, coming off a 5-4 loss to Colorado College over the weekend. While the Tigers’ hard work tallied two wins in singles, Salisbury’s edge Occidental in doubles play, resulting in a 7-2 loss for Oxy.
Leading Oxy in singles action were Jen Wahba and Marissa Cassman. Both pushing Salisbury into third set wins, Wahba defeated Anna Marie Kable, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 1-0 (8) and Cassman found victory over Rache Iosue, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 1-0 (8).
Oxy’s No. 1 and 2 doubles teams put up tough fights against the Seagulls. Wahba and Cassman and played as # 1 while Alayna Santos and Danielle Siegler were both defeated in close matches 8-6.
Against CC on Sunday, March 16, the Tigers lost a tough 5-4 battle despite a 2-0 performance from Oxy captain Santos.
Wahba won 6-5, 6-3 in the # 1 singles spot while Santos earned a 7-6, 6-4 victory as the # 4 player.
In doubles action Santos and Taylor Kaplan won 8-5 as the # 2 team. Siegler and Isabelle Ying earned an 8-3 victory at the # 3 doubles spot as well.
The Tiger will be back in action next Thursday, March 27 at Cal State Fullerton, when they will face Hope International at 2:00 p.m.
