Tigers Take Down Poets

LA CANADA, Calif. (April 4, 2008) – In Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play today at the Flint Canyon Tennis Club Occidental College defeated Whittier College 9-0 on the courts to jump over the .500 mark for conference play.

At the top two doubles spots Alayna Santos and Taylor Kaplan and Danielle Siegler and Kisa Ito both won 8-2 with Isabelle Ying and Colleen Robins coming from behind to earn a close 9-8 (5) game at the # 3 doubles spot.

Siegler, Kaplan and Robins then cruised to 6-0, 6-0 singles wins at the two through five spots. Ying and Ito turned in 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-4 victories, respectively. Rounding out the sweep was the toughest game of the day as Santos defeated Jen Pigott in the # 1 spot by scores of 6-2, 5-7 and 1-0 (7).

Occidental improves to 5-9 on the season and hold a 3-2 SCIAC record.
