Oxy Takes Fifth at SCIAC Womens Tennis Tournament

REDLANDS, Calif. (April 19, 2008) – The culmination of the 2008 women’s tennis season saw the Tigers battling with #6 California Lutheran University in the Final Round of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament hosted by the University of Redlands. Oxy was victorious 5-4 over the Regals today.
Occidental won the fifth place match looking to a foursome of freshmen who made up the majority of the line-up this weekend at championships. Danielle Siegler and Isabelle Ying were each 4-2, while both Colleen Robins and Kisa Ito went 3-3 on the weekend.
The Tigers were led by a 6-0 performance from Marissa Cassman, a sophomore who was named to the Second Team All-SCIAC following the event. Jennifer Wahba turned in a 5-1 weekend, capping off her junior season with First Team All-SCIAC recognition.
Each of the six Oxy players played in six matches this weekend.
In Rounds One and Two, respectively, the Tigers fell to La Verne (5-4) and defeated Caltech (8-1).
Occidental finished the year 8-11 overall with a 6-4 SCIAC mark. Oxy shares the fourth spot with the University of La Verne.
