Tough Stretch Continues for the Tigers
ORANGE, Calif. (Feb. 26, 2009) – This afternoon the women's tennis team traveled to Chapman for a non conference match up. Pitting two of the top programs in the West Region, as #6 Chapman would face off against the #15 Tigers. The Panthers got the best of this one, sweeping Occidental to hand them there third straight loss.
It was another tough outing for the Tigers, as they fell in all three doubles matches, with Kris Subbiah and Jen Wahba pushing the Chapman duo of Liz Lewis and Kelley Fox to the brink in an 8-6 loss.
Things didn’t get any easier in the singles portion of the match, as Chapman (2-1) rolled through, eventually taking the match 9-0. Frances Hutton did lose a close opening set 7-5, while Subbiah handled herself well against Liz Lewis, the number two ranked singles player in the West Region, falling 6-3, 6-4.
Next up for Occidental (1-3, 1-2 in SCIAC play) is a SCIAC dual match with Whittier College. they will travel to take on the Poets this Saturday, February 28th, with first serve scheduled for 9:30am.
