Tigers Drop a Tough One at Home

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. (Mar. 6, 2009) – The Tigers hosted a streaking Hardin-Simmons squad that entered the dual match with four straight wins. Oxy fell behind early, but battled back to tie the match, but that would be as close as they came to knocking off the visiting Cowgirls, falling 5-4.
Hardin-Simmons came out on clicking on all cylinders, as they ran through all three doubles matches, with Kris Subbiah / Jen Wahba putting up the biggest fight before falling 9-7.
Down three love after the doubles portion, Oxy caught fire and won the opening three singles matches. With Subbiah winning a three set match to swing the momentum, followed by Wahba sweeping at the number two spot, and Marissa Cassman dominating at the third spot with a 6-1, 6-1 decision.
With the match tied 3-3, the visiting Cowgirls were able to fight back and pull out back to back three set wins to clinch the victory. Occidental won the final match of the day, to close the gap to one, but that wouldn’t be enough. Hardin-Simmons (5-1) escaped with a great win on the road over a tough Tigers squad.
Next up for Occidental (2-5, 2-2) is a Sunday (March 8th) afternoon match against Washington (Mo.), first serve schedule for 1pm.
