Tigers Finish Up at Ojai Tournament

OJAI, Calif. (April 27, 2009) – After finishing third at the SCIAC conference tournament a week ago, Oxy was well represented in the 109th Ojai Valley Tournament by first year Krishnaveni Subbiah (All-SCIAC 1st Team selection), sophomore Isabelle Ying, and freshman Briana Cartwright. The event brings together the top 64 singles and doubles team in the west region, regardless of division, which made for some great tennis all weekend.
Subbiah had the best showing in singles, advancing to the round of 32, defeating Cal Lutheran's Kim Kolibas in the opening round (6-2, 6-2) before falling to Fresno Pacific’s Katia Sabate. Sabate finished second overall in the singles division. Ying lost in the opening round to The Masters' Paula Higuchi while Cartwright fell to Chapman's Manon Pochet in the opening round as well.
In doubles, Ying and Subbiah won by default in the first round over the team from Whitman, before falling to Point Loma in the round of 32.
Occidental women's tennis concludes a very successful season under head coach Linda Park and looks to continue their improvement on the court next spring as the squad returns all but two senior players, Jennifer Wahba and Taylor Kaplan, in 2010.
