Women’s Tennis Fundraiser a Success Again

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 18, 2008) – On a sunny Southern California afternoon the 2008 women’s tennis program hosted the second annual Round Robin tennis tournament followed by a bar-b-que at the McKinnon Family Tennis Center.

The event began at 3:00 p.m. and everyone enjoyed a Korean BBQ with chicken and shrimp following pool play.

The event was comprised of two pools. Each team was able to play a total of four games, facing every other team in its group. The best overall records on the day were the teams of Marty Bean and Emma Crow-Willard and Steve Murata and Briana Cartwright.

For the second straight year Oxy players, alumni and supporters had the privilege of having Pat Yeomans, class of ’38, present at the event. With her health up to par, the 92 year old was able to participate in the event, playing with her son, Bill. She brought numerous pieces of memorabilia to share with those in attendance, following the event, including a picture of last year's round robin event, which was included in her '07 Christmas card.

Members of the women’s tennis team and coaching staff who were in attendance, including Linda Park and family, Marty Bean and family, Jennifer Wahba, Taylor Kaplan, Isabelle Ying, Rachel Washtien, Jessica Go, Kris Subbiah, Frances Hutton, Ali Horwitz, Kisa Ito and Katrina Gould.

Additional supporters who came out to enjoy the event included: Janet Ito, Minho Chung, Janet Chung, Lorna Kim, Allen Chan, Pazrica Cho, Eileen Spain, Jaime Hoffman, Cori Vanduse and Linda Lyke.

The final players and supporters walked away as the sun went down, following a fun day out on the courts. When all was said and done everyone who played, and guests alike, enjoyed a day full of good tennis, fabulous food and enjoyable company.

Occidental tennis would like to thank all those who came out to support the women’s tennis program.
