LOS ANGELES — Occidental College women's tennis player Krishnaveni Subbiah (Beaverton, Ore.) was named First Team All-SCIAC on Tuesday following a standout season for the Tigers.
Subbiah finished conference play 3-5 at No. 1 singles and was 2-6 at No. 1 doubles with partner Rachel Buckner (Corlandt Manor, N.Y.) in the SCIAC, which has three teams ranked in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national top 30 and six among the top 15 West Region.
Subbiah, the No. 22 ranked player in the West, consistently faced an onslaught of top opponents in conference, including the West's top-ranked player twice. The senior's best win was a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Redlands' Jessica Ly, currently ranked No. 12 in the West.
On March 31, she took the West's No. 5-ranked player, Pomona-Pitzer's Jaime Solomon, to the super tiebreaker before losing 4-6, 6-4, 10-1.
Overall, Subbiah was 8-9 in singles and 11-6 in doubles.
Oxy was 7-13 and 1-9 in SCIAC. The Tigers graduate Subbiah and three others.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Kristen Lim was named the SCIAC Player of the Year and the Athenas topped the list with four players earning honors. Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands were second with three players represented.
