Farrell, Tigers Dominate Singles to Beat Biola

LOS ANGELESSamantha Farrell and the Occidental women's tennis team took 5 of 6 singles matches on its way to a 6-3 win over Biola at Scholl Canyon on Wednesday.

"The woman pulled it out by staying focused in singles," Oxy head coach Ghia Godfree said. "The win was definitely a team effort and I'm proud of our consistency and mental toughness."

Farrell defeated Madeline Heer at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-5, picking up her first win of the season at the top spot.

Keilani Bonis Ericksen, who has played both No. 1 and No. 2 this year, beat Brooke Sanford at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2. 

Oxy's Nicole Castro, Andrea Clawson and Lucy Malloch won at No. 4-6 singles, respectively. 

Clawson and Isabella Korfmann teamed up for Oxy's win in doubles at the No. 3 spot, beating Bailey McGeough and Megan Ontiveros, 8-1.

"They took our work on poaching from practice and applied it to the the match which helped them dominate the middle," Godfree said. 

Season Impact: The Tigers win their second match of the season, improving to 2-4 overall.

Biola falls to 2-6.

Next Match: Oxy is back in action on Saturday at Whittier at 10 a.m.
