Women's Tennis
One of the oldest and most successful intercollegiate sports at Occidental, Tiger women's tennis has established itself as one of the leading small-college programs on the West Coast.
In nearly a century of intercollegiate play, and with a schedule that is among the toughest in NCAA Division III, Oxy has garnered more than 20 conference championships. The Tigers won a national championship in 1982, the same year women's tennis became an NCAA-sanctioned sport, and claimed national runner-up honors in 1986 & 1987.
Since 1976, Occidental has been a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, long regarded as one of the toughest conferences in NCAA Division III tennis.
The Tigers claimed their third consecutive fourth-place SCIAC finish in 2007 after landing fifth from 2000-2004. The three SCIAC teams above Occidental finished the 2006-07 season with a national ranking: Pomona-Pitzer ranked 6th, followed by Redlands (13th), and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (22nd).
The Tigers return two-time All-SCIAC SecondTeam selection Jennifer Wahba ('09) and senior Alayna Santos. Also returning are Taylor Kaplan, Lauren Harris and Marissa Cassman, who all saw significant action last spring. Additionally, five incoming freshman will join the squad in 2008.
