Black and Orange come up short in loss to Texas squad
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Mar. 17, 2010) – The Black and Orange fell behind 3-0 after doubles, but then came up with two dominating wins in singles, to cut the lead to one. But the visiting Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls ripped off four straight wins to lock up the 7-2 win.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Mar. 9, 2010) – Frustrating day for the Tigers ended in a 6-3 loss to the University of Texas – Tyler, as Oxy played well at the beginning of doubles and singles, but could not keep that momentum going in the latter stages of the match. The tough loss also sent the Tigers to their third straight loss.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Mar. 8, 2010) – The Vassar Brewers started their west coast trip with a visit to Occidental College this afternoon. Bringing with them a five match win streak that the Tigers were hoping to snap, but the Brewers were too much for the Black and Orange, handing the Tigers a 9-0 loss to open their spring break mini home stand.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 27, 2010) – Heavy rain over night and more in the forecast has forced Occidental College to reschedule numerous events today. Among those postponed to tomorrow are baseball and men’s tennis, while women’s tennis will play next weekend and softball has been cancelled with a reschedule date unlikely. While those contests have been washed away with the rain, the women’s lacrosse team will play as scheduled in their Inaugural home game on Patterson Field.
LOS ANGELES, CALIF. (Feb. 25, 2010) - The Tigers fell in non conference action today to the Chapman Panthers. Although the Panthers won by the final score of 7-2, a few bounces in their favor and Oxy could have walked away with a victory, as each match was that close.
BURBANK, Calif. (Feb. 20, 2010) – After a tough loss on Friday to Pomona Pitzer, the Black and Orange bounced back to knock off Whittier College 8-1 on Saturday morning, picking up a weekend split and more importantly a conference victory.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 16, 2010) – The Tigers picked up their first victory of the season with a dominating performance over the La Sierra University Golden Eagles. LSU struck first in doubles, but then Oxy responded, and won the final eight matches to pick up the 8-1 win.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb 13, 2010) – The Bulldogs hand the black and orange their second straight loss to start the regular and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season. The defending conference champions put on a dominating performance, winning by the final score of 9-0.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 5, 2010) – A storm traveling through Southern California has forced the Occidental College softball team to postpone their season opener while the women’s tennis match against UC Riverside scheduled for Saturday has been canceled.
Three standout Occidental athletes have been named to the inaugural class of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Athletic Hall of Fame: Pat Henry Yeomans ’38 in tennis, Sammy Lee ’43 in diving, and Jack Kemp ’57 in football.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 30, 2010) – Oxy is coming off a third place finish in the SCIAC, a year ago, and opened the 2010 season and conference by hosting the Cal Lu Regals. The Regals tied for third last season, as well, but got the best of the Tigers today. Dominating the doubles portion of the dual match and held off the Tigers in singles to pick up the victory.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 22, 2009) – On Saturday, October 10, 2009, the Occidental Women’s Tennis Team hosted their annual Round Robin tournament and BBQ dinner. This year’s winners were Ghia Godfree and Oxy player, Rachel Washtien. They defeated Sally Wiggins and Oxy player, Katrina Gould in the final round.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (July 30, 2009) - Women's tennis pioneer and former national junior tennis champion Patricia Henry Yeomans '38 has been inducted into not one, but two halls of fame by the Southern California Tennis Association this summer.
OJAI, Calif. (April 25, 2009) – After finishing third at the SCIAC conference tournament a week ago, Oxy was well represented in the 109th Ojai Valley Tournament by Krishnaveni Subbiah (All-SCIAC 1st Team selection), Sophomore Isabelle Ying, and Freshman Briana Cartwright. The event brings together the top 64 singles and doubles team in the west region, regardless of division, which made for some great tennis all weekend.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 20, 2009) – The women’s tennis team posted a very successful spring in which they placed fourth overall. Three players garnered All-SCIAC recognition including senior Jennifer Wahba, junior Marissa Cassman and freshman Krishnaveni Subbiah.
CLAREMONT, Calif. (April 18, 2009) – In an emotional weekend the Occidental College women’s tennis team used a loss on the road to Cal Lutheran last week as motivation and the No. 4 seeded Tigers upset the No. 3 seeded Regals winning 6-3 to move up in the overall standings at the 2009 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps this weekend.
