Mike Talamantes Hired on as Volleyball Coach

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 5, 2008) – Occidental College Director of Athletics Jaime Hoffman announced today that Mike Talamantes has been hired as the next Head Women’s Volleyball Coach.
Talamantes has been coaching girls volleyball at the high school level for 12 years with stints at both East Los Angeles Junior College and Cal Poly Pomona and with a number of local club teams. He has also coached high school boys volleyball for 10.
As a Varsity Head Coach he has accumulated over 400 career victories with 15 League Championships. He has coached his teams to six CIF Final Fours and produced two CIF Players of the Year. Additionally he has coached seven League Most Valuable Players with 55 players earning All-League Selections, 37 athletes being named All-CIF with four players named All-Americans.
A remarkable 27 players have received full college scholarships to play at the next level.
In both 2005 and 2006 Talamantes was named the CIF – SS Boy’s Volleyball Coach of the Year. The 2005 squad was perfect at 30-0 and was CIF Champions. He then followed that performance with Championships in both 2006 and 2007.
