Tigers Win First Conference Match of 2007

PASADENA, Calif. (September 22, 2007) - Occidental picked up its second win of the 2007 season and their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match win as they defeated Caltech 3-0 on Saturday at the Braun Center.

The Tigers won in straight sets (30-13, 30-21, 30-26). Freshman Kathryn Bockmon led Oxy with six kills while fellow freshman Paige Jimenez recorded five. Senior  outside hitter Sonia Huizar finished with a match-high eight digs. Huizar, Lehela Cleveland and Ginger Grimes each recorded a solo block. Five different players recorded a pair of service aces in the contest as well.

Oxy improves to 2-4, 1-2 in SCIAC play.

The Tigers return to Rush Gymnasium for three consecutive home contests beginning Tuesday against non-conference La Sierra University. Play will begin at 7:30 p.m.
