Occidental Struggles Against Cal Lutheran Defense

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (October 2, 2007) - The Occidental College women's volleyball team dropped its second straight match as they fell in three sets to California Lutheran University in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action tonight at the Gilbert Arena on the campus of CLU.
Match scores were 30-16, 30-14 and 30-13.
The Regals defensive effort held the Occidental attack to a -.092 hitting percentage and reached 13 team blocks while holding the Tigers to just 20 kills in the match. Regal freshman Allison Kerr led the team with 3.5 blocks and nine kills.
Occidental's Emily Wagner led the Tigers with 10 digs and Sonia Huizar added five kills. Kathryn Bockmon and Lisa Fukuzato each tallied four kills in the contest. Oxy setter Jaime Nikami finished with 12 assists and seven digs.
CLU freshman Allison Kerr led all players with nine kills and junior two-time All-SCIAC player Summer Plante-Newman finished with eight. Regals junior setter Lindsey Benson accumulated 31 assists and added six kills in eight attempts for CLU.
While Cal Lutheran improved to10-3, 6-0 in SCIAC play Oxy drops below .500 in SCIAC play as they how hold a 4-6 overall record with a 2-3 conference mark.
The Tigers will return to Rush Gymnasium on Friday evening when they host the University of Redlands at 7:30 p.m. The Bulldogs are currently 10-10 with a 3-3 SCIAC record.
