Back-to-Back Victories for Tigers

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 30, 2008) –  Back in the friendly confines of Rush Gymnasium for the first of a four-game home-stand the Occidental College volleyball team hosted La Sierra University in the final non-conference match of the season, walking away with their second straight 3-0 victory.

Oxy opened strong, hitting .281 in the first game, but the Golden Eagles wouldn’t give up, making all three games close with the Tigers prevailing 25-16, 25-19 and 25-18.

Kathryn Bockmon and Gwynne Davis led all players with six kills apiece while Ashley Rosenbaum and Kaitlin McAndrews each added five. Freshman Allie Brown notched a kill in her only attempt during the final game of the match. 

The Tigers combined for 10 service aces with three coming from each Bockmon and Ginger Grimes. Grimes also tallied a match-high 17 assists.

Defensively Lisa Fukuzato led all players with 15 digs. Combined Oxy recorded 7.0 blocks, as Bockmon and Rosenbaum had two solo blocks each. Nyki Dedic was responsible for two block assists on the night.

Occidental improves to 7-9 overall, 3-8 in SCIAC. Saturday evening the Tigers will host the Poets from Whittier College at 6:00 p.m.
