Tigers stopped by Athenas in another close match

CLAREMONT, Calif. (Oct. 6, 2009) – Again the Occidental College volleyball team came up just short as they fell in straight sets, 25-23, 25-20 and 25-21, to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on the road in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
The Tigers posted double figure kills in both the first and second games, with 10 and 11, respectively as they hit at a .258 clip during the second set. Unfortunately, the Athenas were on their game as well as they earned 17 kills with just two errors in the same set.
Occidental looked to Gwynne Davis and Logan Boyer-Hayse for eight kills apiece while Kasey Rose added seven of her own. Davis hit an incredible .438 with just one error in 16 chances. Ginger Grimes again did the majority of the setting, with 24 assists.
Freshman libero Carin Montelongo recorded the only two aces for Oxy while picking up 10 digs, second only to Rose’s 11. In other defensive action, Ashley Rosenbaum and Clare Bolton each had a solo block as Oxy finished with 4.0 blocks.
The black and orange will have a week of competition free
volleyball before they return to the court on Tuesday, Oct. 13 when
they host the Leopards from the University of La Verne at 7:30 p.m.
in Rush Gymnasium.
