CLAREMONTLogan Boyer-Hayse (Boulder, Colo.) and Stephanie Gann (Tacoma, Wash.) led a balanced offensive attack and the Occidental College women's volleyball team overcame a slow start to pick up an important win at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday 19-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-13.

Boyer-Hayse led the match with 15 kills, Gann had 14 and Kasey Rose (Los Olivos) had 12.

After dropping the first set, Oxy (15-6, 8-5 SCIAC) figured it out with solid play in the middle, led by Aly Fritz (South Pasadena) and Megan Olayinka (Corvallis, Ore.).

Fritz put away 11 kills, hit .500 and was involved in four blocks. Olayinka had one solo block and two block assists.

"We had a really slow start and did not make any adjustments to Pomona's offense in Game 1," Occidental coach Heather Collins said. "We changed some things in Game 2 to get things back on track. The middles did an outstanding job of getting up early and hitting for high percentage. Megan played opposite and did a tremendous job of blocking and off-blocker defense."

Jessie Altman (La Jolla) had 25 assists and Sarah Beene (Gilbert, Ariz.) had 27.

Oxy hosts Chapman on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Rush Gymnasium.
