Wagner, Tigers Sweep Sagehens

CLAREMONTHannah Wagner had seven service aces, Amanda Herold put away 12 kills on .455 hitting and the Occidental women's volleyball team beat Pomona-Pitzer convincingly, 3-0 in Claremont on Friday.

Wagner's excellent serving disrupted Pomona's offense and got the Sagehens out of their set plays. Oxy totaled 12 aces as a group. 

Clair Strohm chipped in eight kills, Wagner had eight and Taylor Gorretta had seven. Oxy setter Allie Sundara had 22 assists and Sabrina Degnan had 13 digs.

Isabel Kelly led the Sagehens with nine kills.

The Tigers continue their hot play, improving to 9-8 overall and 4-4 in SCIAC play. Oxy needed a win against the Sagehens to remain in contention for the four-team SCIAC tournament. With one round of the double round robin in the books, Oxy is one game back of Whittier and Chapman for fourth.

Pomona-Pitzer falls to 6-13 and 3-4.

Oxy was riding the momentum of a big home win over Chapman on Tuesday.

Oxy and Pomona-Pitzer play again on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Rush Gym.
