LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's volleyball team couldn't quite get over the hump in a tight 3-1 loss to Cal Lutheran at Rush Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Oxy lost two of the sets by just two points.

Claire Strohm led four Tigers in double figures with 14 kills. Taylor Gorretta, Amanda Herold and Hannah Wagner all had 10 kills. Sabrina Degnan played outstanding defense with a game-high 17 digs. Herold chipped in 15 digs, and Allie Sundara had 20 assists and 11 digs.

Season Impact: Oxy falls to 10-10 and 5-6.

Cal Lu improves to 11-10 and 7-5. The Reglas have won seven of their last nine matches.

Game 1: Cal Lutheran 26, Occidental 24

Strohm and Guidice made a couple of key plays late in the set, but Oxy couldn't hold a five-point lead late.

The Regals rattled off six straight points for the victory.

Strohm had six kills and five digs in the set.

Game 2: Occidental 25, Cal Lutheran 16

Noticeably energized from letting the first set slip away, the Tigers came out and dominated the Regals in the second set. 

Oxy's biggest lead was 11 at 24-13.

Wagner, Strohm, Gorretta, Guidice and Herold all had three kills as the Tigers hit .364 as a group. 

Sundara had eight assists and Herold had eight digs.

Game 3: Cal Lutheran 25, Occidental 23

Cal Lutheran made a couple of blocks at the net to take their first lead of the set 20-19 and extended a 21-19 lead.

Oxy evened the set on a kill from Strohm, but a kill from Sarah Hein and an ace for Jamie Smith put the Regals back up 23-21.

Oxy got back within one, but lost the set on a service error that was two feet long.

Game 4: Cal Lutheran 25, Occidental 16

The Tigers hit a wall with after taking a 14-11 lead. The Regals went on a 7-0 run to take the momentum of the set and win the match.

Oxy struggled to block at the net, giving the Cal Lu hitters easier hitting opportunities.

Last Time Out: Oxy is coming off a heartbreaking loss at Whittier in five sets, with the fifth set needing extra points with a final score of 17-15. The Tigers played well in that match with Gorretta and Degnan both recording career highs. Degnan did it with 31 digs and Gorretta had 20 kills.

Next Match: The Tigers are back in action on Oct. 20 at Redlands at 7 p.m.

Cal Lu faces Whittier next on Oct. 20.
