LOS ANGELES — Occidental senior outside hitter and team captain Claire Strohm was named Second Team All-SCIAC for the third year in a row.
Strohm led the Tigers in kills per set (2.77), aces (43) and digs (260). She ranked eighth in the SCIAC in kills per set (2.70), ninth in digs (164) and third in aces (26).
Strohm was also named Second Team All-SCIAC her sophomore and junior seasons. Earlier this year, she surpassed the 1,000 career kills mark, finishing her career with 1,040.
"(Assistant coach) Rich Huynh and I are so proud of Claire making 2nd team All Conference for the third year in a row,"Oxy head coach Heather Collins said. "She finished in the top five of conference statistics in six categories and in the top ten in two more. Year in and year out, she has proven to be a big threat at the net and behind the service line, scoring the highest total points on the team. Her leadership, attitude and effort have been top notch and we will miss her dearly."
In Oxy's last home match of the season, Strohm helped lead the Tigers past La Verne for the first time in four years with a 3-1 upset victory.
The Tigers finished the season with a winning overall record at 13-12 and were .500 in SCIAC at 8-8.
Oxy graduates co-captain Amanda Herold, Cassandra Guidice, Sarah Goetz and Alex Melikian, but returns a solid group of younger players, including first year Taylor Gorretta, who averaged 2.29 kills per set, and junior Hannah Wagner, who averaged 2.13 kills per set. Oxy also returns junior libero Sabrina Degnan, junior setter Allie Sundara and first year setter Lara Minassians, who was recognized on the SCIAC's All-Sportsmanship Team.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
