LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 31, 2011) – Announced today by Occidental College Director of Athletics, Jaime Hoffman, Shea Manning will assume the position of Director of Aquatics and Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach effective July 1.

Seniors conclude spring with Scholar-Athlete Banquet
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Since 1987, the Tiger Club has presented annual awards to Occidental College’s most outstanding male and female scholar-athletes. In recent years the recognitions expanded from the Roy Dennis Scholar-Athlete Award only, to the Grant Dunlap and Pat Yeomans awards as well. The 2011 recipients included Alex Wertheimer, Stephanie Babij, Ross Pomerantz, Julianne Monday, Miner Ross and Kelly Young.

SCIAC Co-Champions suit up seven on All-SCIAC teams

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – After being ranked No. 1 in Division III until the last day of the regular season, the Occidental College women’s water polo provided why the season was so successful as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced today that seven Tigers earned All-SCIAC recognition.

Sudden Death stunner ends Tigers’ season; Oxy earns share of SCIAC title
LA VERNE, Calif. – The Occidental College women’s water polo team found themselves in uncharted water this afternoon in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship game against the University of Redlands. In a low-scoring, defensive battle, the teams needed a pair of overtimes and more than two sudden death stanzas to determine a winner. Much to the dismay of the Tigers, the Bulldogs capitalized on a man-up situation with 1:19 remaining in the ninth period of play to earn a 7-6 victory and the SCIAC title at Las Flores Park in La Verne.

Second half surge sends Tigers to title tilt
LA VERNE, Calif. – After leading by a goal at the break, the Occidental College Tigers used a second-half surge to defeat the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens, 7-5, in one of two Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semi final games at the 2011 women’s water polo Tournament hosted by the University of La Verne at Las Flores Park in La Verne.

Water Polo win at UR, remains atop National and SCIAC Standings
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of Redlands took over the No. 2 spot in the National rankings this week, but the No. 1 ranked Occidental College Tigers defeated the Bulldogs, 9-6, in a low scoring affair under the lights on Wednesday evening to remain undefeated in league play and maintain their No. 1 overall National ranking; joining Division I Stanford who holds the top spot in their respective division.

Tigers nearly survive sudden death overtime; finish Cal Lutheran Tournament 3-1
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The women’s water polo team nearly completed a weekend sweep at the 2011 Cal Lutheran University Tournament, but Cal State University, Monterey Bay stood in their way as the teams needed a sudden death overtime to determine a winner. The Tigers fell 14-13 after defeating Concordia, 9-5, Fresno Pacific, 8-4, and Wagner, 15-6.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – On the second weekend of the young 2011 season, the No. 1 ranked Division III Occidental College Tigers defeated No. 20 Division I Cal State University Bakersfield, 13-12, in overtime before dropping a close 10-5 game against host Cal State University Northridge.

Tigers earn top spot in Division III Pre-Season poll
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – A year ago the women’s water polo team at Occidental College had no seniors and competed with the top schools in the Nation to finish third in the final National Poll of 2010. Entering the 2011 season, the tenacious Tigers are ranked No. 1 among the Division III programs in the country, edging Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Pomona-Pitzer for the top spot.
