LOS ANGELES – Hi'ipoi Lee scored a season-high five goals and the Occidental women's water polo team had a good offensive showing in a loss to NCAA Division I VMI, 26-14 at Taylor Pool on Thursday.

The Tigers scored 11 of their 14 goals in the second half. Carly Zurcher had a hat trick for the Tigers, Kyla Houck scored two goals, and Abby Appel, Lori Berberian and Zulema Iboa-Garcia each had one.

Occidental took a fast lead scoring in the first 20 seconds of the game. Lee scored off an assist from Zurcher.

Virginia Military Institute responded quickly scoring three goals in three minutes.

Coming into the second quarter down 7-1, the Tigers started to chip away at the lead, bringing the score to 8-3 on a goal from Zurcher off an exclusion play, but the Tigers didn't have an answer to the Keydets high-powered offense and weren't able to close the gap any further.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 4-11. Virginia Military Institute improves to 11-3.

Next Game: The Tigers have a doubleheader this Saturday. They play at Cal Lutheran at 11 a.m. and then return home to play Macalester College at Taylor Pool at 4 p.m.
