LOS ANGELES — Oxy's Women's Water Polo team was firing on all cylinders last Wednesday night in an 18-2 blowout against the Caltech Beavers.
Both the defense and offense shined in the Tigers rout of the Beavers. Oxy received goals from nine different players, assists from six, and steals from seven. The Tigers jumped out to a six-goal lead in the first quarter and never looked back - eventually extending their lead to nine at the half. The second half saw much of the same, as the Tigers continued to open up passing lanes on offense and swarm to the ball on defense.
Oxy's first years came up huge in the Tigers first SCIAC victory of the season. Cassidy Evans and Hannah Pearson, who have gotten off to hot starts in their young career, led the way for the Tigers. Evans recorded three goals and three assists, while Pearson netted a game-high four goals and added one assist. Chelsea Evans had a solid all around game as well, notching two goals, one assists, and two steals. Mika O'Shea was stellar in goal with six saves.
Claudia Oppermann, a junior from Fallbrook, CA, had a nice night with three goals and one assist and Lori Berberian added two goals and an assist of her own. Senior, Hi'ipoi Lee and first year, SaraJoy Salib, each added a goal, an assist, and two steals
