Redlands Pulls Away in Second Half

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's water polo team played good defense in the first half, but Redlands pulled away in the third quarter to eventually secure a 12-4 win.

The Tigers fell behind 3-0 and then quickly rallied to end the first half down just 4-3. Oxy goalkeeper Mika O'Shea came up with big saves throughout the game, particularly in the second quarter, finishing with a total of 13.

Redlands went on a 8-1 run in the second half, scoring four of their goals on power play opportunities.

Oxy was coming off a 5-4 win against Austin on Wednesday night during which it played some of its best defense of the season.

Abigail Lavold led Oxy's offense with two goals, Chelsea Evans had a goal and an assist and Michela Imperiale had one goal. Claudia Opperman had three drawn exclusions and a steal.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 6-8 overall and 0-4 in SCIAC play.

Redlands improves to 9-11 and 3-2.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action at Whittier on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Tigers return home on March 23 against La Verne.
