LA MIRADA — Megan Lang (Longmont, Colo.) and Deanna Dupuy (Newbury) did what they've done all season, Jenna Wong (Kaneohe, Hawaii) joined them and the Occidental College women's cross country team finished third at the SCIAC Multi-Dual at La Mirada Park on Friday.

Lang came in 14th (22 minutes, 39.12 seconds), Dupuy in 15th (22:42.32) and Wong in 16th (22:49.89).  Lang and Dupuy have now finished first and second for the Tigers at all four meets this year.

"The women couldn't have run any better," Oxy coach Rob Bartlett said. "We got beat because other teams were better today."

Lang's and Dupuy's performances have become expected, but Wong joining them at the front of the pack was a pleasant surprise.

"Especially Jenna Wong," Bartlett said. "She's been kind of a trick up our sleeve."

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps ran away with the win, going 8-0.

Oxy finished just one point behind second-place Pomona-Pitzer.

Oxy's Tara Saxena (Palo Alto) was the fourth scorer for the Tigers (22:59.85) and 20th overall and Marnie Kinnaird (Oak Park, Ill.) was the fifth and 25th (23:12.80).

No. 4 CMS is going to be tough to catch, but Pomona-Pitzer is on Oxy's radar.

"To be honest it's going to be a dogfight against Pomona again," Bartlett said, referring to the SCIAC Championship on Oct. 27. "The women are ready to go out and compete and they know what they have to do. It's going to come down to little things."
