CLAREMONT — Landon Hart came through with the breakout performance of his young career, as Occidental was led by a couple of first-years at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite on Saturday.
Hart finished the race with a time of 27:07.3, good for 61st overall out of the field of 165 racers. The time was a significant personal best for Hart, who bested his previous top collegiate time by over a minute and a half.
"That was unbelievable," head coach Rob Bartlett said of Hart's performance. "[Hart] probably ran through 5k of that race today faster than his 5k personal best in high school."
Along with Hart, first-year Harrison Luft put in one of the strongest races of the day for the Tigers. Luft finished the race in 27:02.9, giving him the highest finish for any Oxy runner at 58th overall.
In the women's race, first-year Mel Devoney was the highest finisher for the Tigers, crossing the line in 54th place with a time of 24:37.2. Anna Misenti and Bolivia Iezza, the only two other women racing for Oxy, finished in 106th and 111th respectively.
Oxy sat out a majority of its runners on Saturday, giving them a chance to recover from the Roy Griak Invite last weekend.
