CLAREMONT -- The Occidental women's cross country started the season on the right foot, beating Pomona-Pitzer in a dual meet on Thursday, 25-35.
"It's a really positive start to the season," Oxy head coach Rob Bartlett said. "Pomona-Pitzer is a team that beat us at the regional and conference level last year so it's a really good sign that we've taken a big step forward to come out on top in our first race."
The Oxy men had too tough of a task against the Sagehen men, who are ranked No. 5 in the country, falling 15-50.
"They're a phenomenal team that will be in the hunt for a national title," Bartlett said. "Given the times that we ran and the way that we did it, it wasn't too bad."
Oxy's top two finishers were as expected with Austin Sankaran leading the way and Keenan Learyjust behind him. Brody Barkan, a middle distance runner for the Oxy track team, made the top seven in his cross country debut.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
