Six Oxy Runners Set Personal Records in Wisconsin

WINNECONNE, Wisc. — The Occidental women's cross country team finished 12th in a field of 36 teams at the UW-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Cross Country Invitational at the Lake Breeze Golf Course on Saturday.

Roxanne Valle, Eva Townsend, Fiona Pedrick, Sabrina Thurber and Erika Schell all set personal records.

Valle, who's missed time due to injury this season and was Oxy's best runner last season as a first year, was the first to cross the line (31st/22:48). Aria Blumm was next (48th/23:04), followed by Eva Townsend (57th/23:12), Fiona Pedrick (77th/23:26) and Sabrina Thurber (127th/24:06).

"It was our best performance of the season and a big step forward from the SCIAC Multi Dual Meet," Oxy head coach Rob Bartlett said. "Our three top returners were at their best and it pulled the rest of our team forward."

With Valle back in the mix the Tigers are hoping they can make a run at the SCIAC Championship meet.

"Roxanne ran with a lot of guts given it was her first race of the season," Bartlett said. "She competed hard and it's good to have her back out there."

Next Meet: The Tigers are off this weekend and then return to action at the SCIAC Championships on Oct. 29 at Chino Hills.
