NEW ORLEANS — Both Occidental men's and women's cross country teams and five individuals were recognized for outstanding academic acheivement on Thursday.
The Oxy men's and women's teams were two of 389 teams that were named All-Academic by the USTFCCCA in all divisions.
For a team to be considered for the honor, it must have competed and compiled a team score at a NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum team GPA of 3.10.
Aria Blumm from the women's team, and Austin Sankaran, Keenan Leary, Brody Barkan and Thomas Robertson from the men's team earned individual recognition for earning a GPA of 3.30 or higher and finishing in the top-25 percent in the West Region race.
"These academic honors are the icing on the cake of what was a great 2016 season for both the men's and women's cross country teams," Oxy head coach Rob Bartlett said. "The coaching staff is as proud of the team's academic performance as we are of its athletic success. Succeeding in the classroom and the playing field is at the heart of what the Occidental athletic experience truly represents."Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
