LA MIRADA — The Occidental women's cross country team had its best SCIAC finish since 2013, placing second at the SCIAC Multi Dual at La Mirada Park on Friday.

The women from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps took first as a group. The Tigers beat No. 28 Pomona-Pitzer along with the rest of a competitive SCIAC field.

Roxanne Valle was Oxy's top finisher in ninth overall at 22:14.78, Aria Blum was 10th at 22:20.76 and Sabrina Thurber finished 11th at 22:24.48. Eva Townsend placed 16th at 22:52.02 and Kayla Lim was 31st at 23:56.19, rounding out Oxy's scorers.

"Sabrina Thurber had the performance of the day with her highest ever conference finish," Oxy head coach Rob Bartlett said. "Eva Townsend also had a breakthrough race, breaking 23:00 for the first time in cross country. Further back first years Kayla Lim and Lilah Abrams also had great races on the tough course, while battling hot weather."

SCIAC Scoring: The SCIAC Multi Dual accounts for 25 percent of the overall conference finish. The remaining 75 percent is determined at the SCIAC Championship Meet.

The Tigers are back in action at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite and the Cowbell Classic at Principia College on Oct. 14. Oxy's next conference competition is the SCIAC Championship race on Oct. 29.
