LA MIRADA — The Occidental women's cross country team had its best SCIAC finish since 2013, placing second at the SCIAC Multi Dual at La Mirada Park on Friday.
The women from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps took first as a group. The Tigers beat No. 28 Pomona-Pitzer along with the rest of a competitive SCIAC field.
Roxanne Valle was Oxy's top finisher in ninth overall at 22:14.78, Aria Blum was 10th at 22:20.76 and Sabrina Thurber finished 11th at 22:24.48. Eva Townsend placed 16th at 22:52.02 and Kayla Lim was 31st at 23:56.19, rounding out Oxy's scorers.
"Sabrina Thurber had the performance of the day with her highest ever conference finish," Oxy head coach Rob Bartlett said. "Eva Townsend also had a breakthrough race, breaking 23:00 for the first time in cross country. Further back first years Kayla Lim and Lilah Abrams also had great races on the tough course, while battling hot weather."
SCIAC Scoring: The SCIAC Multi Dual accounts for 25 percent of the overall conference finish. The remaining 75 percent is determined at the SCIAC Championship Meet.
