Valle, Oxy Women in 5th at West Regional

CLAREMONTRoxanne Valle finished 12th overall and the Occidental women's cross country team took fifth at the NCAA Division III West Regional at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps took home the regional championship, with Whitworth in second place, Linfield taking third and Colorado College in fourth.

SCIAC Women's Runner of the Year Brynn McKillop took first overall with a time of 21:07.51 in the 6K.

Both CMS and Whitworth earn the conference's automatic bids. Linfield waits for a possible at-large bid that will be announced on Sunday morning's selection show.

Valle, Oxy's No. 1 and a national qualifier last season, crossed the line in 22:19.72. She will earn another trip to the NCAA National Championship meet next weekend if Linfield is selected as an at-large bid.

To qualify as an individual you must be among the top 7 finishers in the West after taking out all qualifying teams.

Aria Blumm was Oxy's second woman to finish at 23:02.09 in 29th place, followed by Sabrina Thurber in 30th at 23:04.05, Eva Townsend in 34th at 23:09.72 and Kim Layla in 47th at 23:49.40.

Valle, Thurber, Townsend and Blumm all earn All-West Region honors for finishing in the top 35.
