WHO IS A REPRESENTATIVE OF ATHLETICS INTERESTS
13.02.9 representative of Athletics interests. A “representative of the institution’s athletics interests” is an individual who is known (or who should have been known) by a member of the institution’s executive or athletics administration to:
(a) Have participated in or to be a member of an agency or
organization promoting the institution’s intercollegiate
athletics program;
(b) Have made financial contributions to the athletics
department or to an athletics booster organization of
that institution;
(c) Be assisting or to have been requested (by the athletics
department staff) to assist in the recruitment of prospective
student-athletes;
(d) Be assisting or to have assisted in providing benefits to
enrolled student-athletes or their families; or
(e) Have been involved otherwise in promoting the
institution’s athletics program.
13.02.9.1 Representative of Athletics Interests. Once an
individual is identified as such a representative, the person
retains that identity indefinitely.

The Tiger Club was formed in 1979 to support the Athletics Department in providing a comprehensive and highly competitive intercollegiate sports program at Occidental College. The Club is designed to attract financial and moral support from former student-athletes, alumni, family, friends, administration and staff. The aid is crucial to allow Oxy to maintain its’ century-old winning tradition while facilitating the provision of 21 intercollegiate programs, seven college supported club programs (e.g. dance, cheerleading, rugby) and facilities for the entire college community to commit to their physical well-being.
The support of the Athletics’ programs at Occidental has
resulted in notable success over the last few years as Oxy has
become a much stronger competitor in the overall SCIAC standings.
The women’s basketball team has won five consecutive SCIAC
championships. Women’s soccer and volleyball have just
completed very successful 2011 seasons. The men’s basketball
and football teams are perennial powers in the SCIAC and the track
and cross country programs have a long and rich history. In fact,
Oxy now has more student athletes representing the college than at
any time in its history.
Since none of Oxy’s programs generate revenue to meet
even a portion of the costs, and since the college has so many
other demands on its financial resources, the Tiger Club is
required to raise a substantial (35%) portion of the Athletics
Department’s operating budget so that Oxy has the equipment,
facilities and coaches necessary to compete.
Our focus for this year is:
- To improve Oxy’s overall SCIAC standing
- To continue to grow and enhance the Occidental brand through recruiting and image on the playing field
- To continue to upgrade Oxy’s facilities and competitive venues
- To provide state-of-the-art training facilities
- To invest in enhanced assistant coach’s stipends
To accomplish these ambitions, we need your support. We are
making great progress…but we need more financial resources
from the Tiger Club to achieve the leadership position we
expect.
