LOS ANGELES — The Occidental football team finished the 2019 season with a 67-12 loss to a very good Redlands team on Saturday.
Oxy celebrated the careers of eight seniors that played in their final home game.
Joshua Greaves, Harrison Wakefield, Lucas Savoie, Javion Tinsley, Joshua Yee, Nathan Gray, Billy Grossman and Mason Duran were greeted by their teammates, coaches and family members with a brief pregame ceremony.
Its an important class of seniors that stuck it out as Oxy stopped and then restarted its program.
Greaves and Wakefield are both team captains and have had notable careers. Greaves has been Oxy's starting quarterback for the past couple of seasons and Wakefield a key leader at the safety position for the Tigers' defense.
Wakefield had a huge game on defense, finishing with 15 tackles.
Oxy came out of the gate with a big fumble recovery on the opening kickoff. Tinsley knocked it loose and then Ethan Kearns picked it up.
Just a couple plays later, Greaves hit first year wide receiver Kaden Smith in the end zone for a 23-yard touchdown pass.
From that point on, it was all downhill for Oxy as it was overmatched against one of the best teams in the country.
The Tigers did score a late touchdown on a pass from Greaves to Savoie with 7:40 left in the fourth quarter.
