LOS ANGELES — Zach Baines was named the SCIAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after a pair of impressive performances in Oxy wins.
The 6-foot-5 senior from Stamford, Conn. led Oxy with 28 points and 13 rebounds in a win over La Verne and scored 36 points on 14 of 16 shooting, including 5 for 5 from three, against Cal Miramar.
Baines, who was named First Team All-SCIAC last season, is currently leading all SCIAC players with 22.1 points per game. He's also averaging over 7 rebounds per game and shooting 56 percent from the field.
"It's nice to be acknowledged for this award, but it's even nicer that we've been on this win streak," Baines said. "My game will speak for itself as these games go by, but I hope we can continue the success that we're having throughout the rest of the season."
Oxy is off to a solid start at 7-0 overall and 1-0 in SCIAC play.
The Tigers have a big SCIAC home game against Whittier on Dec. 16 at 4 p.m. at Rush Gym.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
