LOS ANGELES — Ryan Kaneshiro was named the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday.
Kaneshiro, a 6-foot-2 junior guard from Santa Clarita, led Oxy to an 86-72 win over Whittier on Sunday with six points, eight assists and 11 rebounds, including nine at the defensive end of the court.
Kaneshiro has become known as one of the best on-ball defenders in the SCIAC and rebounds very well, ranking fourth out of SCIAC players with 8.5 rebounds per game.
On the other end of the court, he has been outstanding taking care of and distributing the ball. In 59 career games he has 225 assists and just 50 turnovers. He's best among SCIAC players this season with 6.5 assists per game.
The Tigers are off to a solid start at 8-0 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC play.
Kaneshiro was named SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season on Nov. 26.
