Baines Named SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week

LOS ANGELESZach Baines was named the SCIAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after an outstanding stretch of games.

Baines, a senior forward from Stamford, Conn., averaged 25 points and 7 rebounds per game during a two-week run of five games that included him setting Oxy's single-game scoring record with 50 points in a win over Pacific (Ore.).

Sam Betty owned the previous record of 47 in 2006.

Baines earns the conference's weekly honor for the second time this season. He was also named to the Team of the Week.

Oxy as a team is up two five conference honors. Ryan Kaneshiro earned Defensive Player of the Week twice and Austin DeWitz earned it once.

Oxy is off to a 13-0 start overall and 4-0 mark in SCIAC play.

The Tigers return to action against defending SCIAC Champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
