LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's soccer team fell to No. 7 Redlands 2-0 in its SCIAC opener at Jack Kemp Stadium on Wednesday.
The Tigers fall to 1-2 overall, but have played some stiff competition. Oxy opened the season at NCAA Division II No. 4 UC San Diego and beat Willamette 3-0 on Sunday.
Oxy was off just a step in the first half, but really settled in and had a number of quality chances to cut the Bulldogs' lead in half late in the game. The best one was when Matthew Teplitz had a good run up the left line that pulled Redlands goalkeeper John Melito off of his line. Teplitz played the ball back to Tod Kawada in the middle of the box, but the ball was a little behind him. By the time Kawada had a look at the net, Melito had recovered and made a fantastic diving save.
Ryan Wilson also had a great opportunity from the right side that went just wide left of the net.
Casey ChubbFertal scored the Bulldogs' first goal in the 31st minute and Antony Chonga had the second in the 48th.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, hosting Caltech at 7 p.m.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
