LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's soccer team got its first taste of competition with a 6-0 exhibition win over CETYS of Mexico at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.
Ethan Glass scored Oxy's first goal in the 14th minute, putting the Maradona touch on a loose ball in the box for a fancy finish. Matthew Teplitz found Liam Walsh in the middle near the top of the 18-yard box with a pass. As Walsh collected the ball and tried to weave his way between CETYS defenders, the ball came loose and Glass was there to put it in the back of the net, impressing the crowd.
Nicolas Eble scored Oxy's second goal in the 17th minute, rolling a shot from the right side of the 6-yard box past the CETYs goalkeeper far post.
Teplitz initiated Oxy's third goal, breaking free up the left side in a 4-on-3 advantage. He hit a rolling cross to the far post where Glass calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the net for his second goal of the game.
Sean Kim scored Oxy's fourth goal in the 40th minute, finishing his own miss that went off the right post, from point-blank range.
Eble scored his second goal of the game just 18 seconds into the second half, dribbling easily through the CETYS defense for a quick goal.
Adam Ned scored Oxy's sixth goal in the 84th minute. Ned made a run in behind the defense and first-timed a ball over the goalkeeper's head.
CETYS is in the middle of a multi-year process to join NCAA Division II and the PacWest Conference.
The men's soccer team isn't the only Oxy team to face CETYS. The Oxy football team opens their season in Mexicali, Mexico on Sept. 1 and the Oxy men's basketball team played the University in an exhibition two years ago.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
