Tigers Cruise Past St. Katherine 8-0 in Opener

LOS ANGELESEthan Glass continued his offensive surge with a pair of goals and the Occidental men's soccer team started the season off on the right foot with an 8-0 rout of St. Katherine at Jack Kemp Stadium on Friday.

Glass scored Oxy's first official goal of the season in the 8th minute, one-timing a pass from Matthew Teplitz from inside the 6-yard box. Glass, a senior from Northbrook, Ill. was a standout in the Tigers' exhibition game against Cety's University last Saturday, scoring a pair of goals in a 6-0 rout.

Glass also had Oxy's third goal, stealing the ball from a St. Katherine defender and putting it in the back of the net in the 55th minute of the game.

Teplitz was good attacking up the side of the field as he usually is, creating offensive chances for Oxy.

Liam Walsh scored Oxy's second goal of the game off his right foot in the 18th minute. He collected the ball at the right side of the 6-yard box, turned and beat the keeper with a rolling shot to give Oxy a comfortable cushion. Walsh, a senior from Washington, D.C., has been an offensive force his entire career, scoring six goals last year. His first of the season against St. Katherine was the 15th of his career.

Nicolas Eble scored Oxy's fourth goal of the game in the 65th minute, finishing an over-the-top ball from Miles Robertson.

From there the flood gates opened.

Moments after Eble found the net, Teplitz picked the pocket of a St. Katherine defender and knocked in his first goal of the season in the 66th minute.

The prettiest goal of the game came off the right foot of Jasper Brannon. The first year from Seattle booked his first career goal in style, faking a shot from 20 yards out, taking a touch past a diving defender and then drilling a shot into the top-right corner of the goal, sending the crowd into cheers.

Brannon added a hustle goal for Oxy's seventh score, charging the goal to get a foot on the ball from point-blank range in the 72nd minute.

Oxy's eighth goal came on a pass from Nate Dunning who rolled a cross to Adam Ned at the back post.

Oxy dominated possession of the game for most of the 90 minutes and was rarely threatened in its own defensive third of the field.

In one exhibition game and one regular season non-conference game, the Tigers have scored a total of 14 goals.

Oxy is back in action on Sunday at 7 p.m. at Jack Kemp Stadium against the University of Antelope Valley. Oxy plays its annual alumni game at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
