Oxy Ties George Fox 0-0

LOS ANGELES — Despite an onslaught of corner kicks and chances, the Occidental men's soccer team couldn't find the goal it needed in a 0-0 overtime tie against George Fox on Friday night.

The Tigers dominated with a total of 21 shots, 11 of them on goal, and 16 corner kicks, but didn't put a score on the board.

Oxy did get another solid defensive performance for its third shutout of the year, led by defenders Riley McCabe, Miles Robertson, Ben Tucker, David Paine, Jack Meeker and Matthew Anzalone.

Oxy goalkeeper Will Baltrus continued his solid play in goal after replacing injured All-SCIAC goalkeeper Scott Drazan. Drazan came on late in his return from injury, playing the end of the first half and both overtime periods.

Oxy senior co-captain Ben Simon made his first appearance of the season after recovering from a foot injury.

1st Half Chances

The Tigers had the bulk of the possession in the first half and threatened the Bruins consistently with seven shots and five on goal.

Adrian Parades, who has been close to scoring a couple of times this season, headed a cross toward the back of the net in the 27th minute, but GFU goalkeeper Sebastian Lopez made a diving save to deflect it off the cross bar. Parades had four headers that needed saves in a 0-0 tie against Concordia (Texas) earlier this season.

Ryan Wilson also had a header that needed a save in the 37th minute.

2nd Half Chances

Sean Kim had Oxy's first good rip of the second half in the 49th minute, cutting into his left and sending a rocket shot high.

Jack Meeker had a good near-post shot saved just 2 minutes later.

Joey Schwartz snuck behind the defense on a good bounce off of a throw in in the 52nd minute, but his shot was saved. Schwartz also had a near post shot saved in the 65th minute.

Kim used a big throw to find the head of Daivd Paine in the 83rd minute, but Paine missed wide left.

Nicolas Eble had the best chance of the game in the 87th minute, taking a nice touch to his left inside the box and hitting the ball off of the crossbar.

Ben Simon had a volley that needed a diving save on Oxy's 15th corner kick of the game

Season Impact: Oxy's record goes to 2-1-2.

GFU goes to 2-2-1.
