ALISO VIEJO — Ellie O'Brien cracked the Oxy top-10 all-time list in the 200-yard breastroke and nearly did the same in the 100 breast, as both Occidental swimming and diving teams competed at their first scored meet of the year at the Soka Invitational on Saturday.
In the pool for the second time this season and against scholarship schools, the Oxy women finished fourth and the men were third.
"It's a great stepping stone and benchmark for improvement moving forward. Last week was an extremely challenging training week," Oxy head coach Shea Manning said. "Putting together solid races when we are broken down is always about gaining valuable experience."
WOMEN'S RECAP: O'Brien swam the 200 breast in 2 minutes, 33.26 second, moving up to seventh all-time in the event. Her 100 breast time of 1:11.84 is the 11th best by a Tiger, missing the 10th spot by .02 seconds. The sophomore finished second in both events, beating all but one women's swimmer in a very competitive field.
Lianne McKinney had another solid performance, placing third in the 100 butterfly (1:03.40). In her first collegiate meet last weekend she was Oxy's top peformer at the Bulldog Pentathlon.
MEN'S RECAP: Cody Hamane was second in 200 breast (2:20.61) and fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:06.69) to lead the Oxy men's team.
Austin Lashley had a strong performance, finishing third in the 100 fly (55.42).Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Like us on Facebook Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
