LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's swimming and diving team's 200-yard medley relay just keeps improving and dropping time as they posted another in-season program best, beating Redlands at Taylor Pool on Saturday.
The Oxy men fell 159-121 as a team, but scored more points against the Bulldogs than they have in 20 years, winning six events.
Matt Weiser, Steven van Deventer, Chase Mitchell and Sean Sullivan combined for another impressive medley relay, hitting the wall in 1 minutes, 37.88 seconds. The Tigers have had seven different student-athletes swim a leg on the relay this season and have shaved time off each week.
Weiser also won the 200 freestyle (1:49.44) and the 200 back (2:00.73), coming from behind in what was one of the most exciting races of the afternoon. He was also runner-up in the 500 free (5:07.40).
van Deventer swept the 100 (1:00.24) and 200 (2:13.72) breaststrokes with ease.
Brandon Kim was Oxy's other winner, taking the 500 free (4:58.19).
From the Coach: "We have a deeper team that I know will match up more competitively with the rest of the conference when we get to taper time and the SCIAC Championship Meet," Oxy head coach Shea Manning said.
Next Meet: The Tigers return to action at Caltech on Jan. 17. Oxy returns home against La Verne on Jan. 24.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Like us on Facebook Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
