Lashley All-SCIAC in 100 Fly

COMMERCE — The Occidental men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued competition at the 2017 SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center.

The meet began on Wednesday and runs through Saturday, with preliminary rounds in the morning and finals in the evening each day.

The Tigers had a ton of scoring swimmers on both teams after a terrific morning session on Friday.

"I thought overall it was an awesome day," Oxy head coach Steve Webb said. "We stepped up in the morning and put ourselves in position to be successful. I like where we're at headed into the final day."

Friday Women's Recap:

Ellie O'Brien and Laura Chun highlighted the Oxy women's team on Friday night in the 100 breaststroke final. O'Brien placed fifth at 1:06.87 and Chun was seventh at 1:07.27.

Annika Moen placed eighth in the 100 fly at 59.08, her second individual final of the meet. The first year was eighth in the 200 I.M. at 2:11.18 on Thursday.

Daryl LewisJoan KronickAlicia VogelaarMadeline Gillman and Maddie DiMarco all scored points for the Tigers by making consolation finals.

DiMarco, a senior from Seattle, scored for the first time in her career, placing fourth in the consolation 100 backstroke at 1:01.09. Gillman was seventh in the event at 1:01.71.

Vogelaar finished fourth in the 200 free consolation race at 1:58.79, Kronick scored in the 100 fly consolation at 1:00.77 and Lewis scored in the consolation of the 100 breaststroke at 1:09.87.

Oxy's 200 free relay team of Gillman, O'Brien, Moen and Vogelaar placed fifth at 4:04.57.

Friday Men's Recap:

Austin Lashley continued his impressive meet, taking third in the 100 fly with an NCAA "B" cut time of 49.17. The mark puts him in contention for the top 22 swimmers that qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships in each event annually.

It's the second year in a row that Lashley has been All-SCIAC in the event for finishing in the top three.

Lashely set the school record in the 50 freestyle on Thursday night.

The Tigers' had a handful of individuals score points with solid performances in the consolation finals of their events. Chase Mitchell finished fourth in the 100 back at 53.45 with Ben Sappey right behind him in fifth at 53.82, Roee Perry took third in the 100 breast at 58.97 and Cody Hamane was seventh in the event at 1:00.06, and Edward Dabsys placed second in the 200 free at 1:43.15.
